RODENT AND PEST INFORMATION
• Rodents spread diseases such as: salmonellosis (food poisoning), plague, leptospirosis, rickettsial pox, and lymphocytic chriomeningitis (LCM).
• Rodents consume roughly 20 percent of the world’s food supply each year.
• Female mice reproduce up to 8 times in their life span, producing 4-7 pups each time. A single female may produce as many as 56 offspring annually.
• Rats can swim up to a mile. They can also tread water for up to 3 days.
• A mouse can survive a fall of 8 feet onto a hard surface. A roof rat can survive a 25 foot fall.
• A rat can leap 3 feet straight up and 4 feet horizontally. They can also squeeze through an opening only ½ inch big.
• Mice can squeeze through and opening ¼ inch big. Mice can also jump 1 foot vertically.
• The female German cockroach produces 4-8 egg capsules in her lifetime. Each egg capsule contains 30-40 eggs.
• The house ants’ average colony contains 3000-4000 members.
• An Eastern Yellow Jacket colony can contain as many as 5000+ individuals.
